For years, WebDAV has served as a standard protocol for mapping cloud storage to local environments. While functional, WebDAV introduces inherent protocol overhead and latency bottlenecks that can slow down heavy Revit operations like Synchronize with Central (SWC) and link loading.
To eliminate these bottlenecks, we are incredibly excited to announce a major engineering milestone for CADtoWIN: a brand-new worksharing architecture built on a Dokan virtual file system drive.
Why Dokan? Breaking the WebDAV Speed Barrier
By moving away from traditional WebDAV and implementing a dedicated virtual drive via Dokan, we are bringing low-latency, kernel-level filesystem performance directly to your BIM workflows.

Significantly Faster Sync Times: Dokan operates closer to the Windows kernel, drastically cutting down request overhead. Your “Synchronize with Central” operations will execute much faster compared to older WebDAV setups.
Robust File Locking & Worksets: Revit relies heavily on transparent, instantaneous file coordination to manage worksets. The new virtual drive architecture handles file system locks (.slog files and central locks) natively and instantly, preventing sync conflicts before they happen.
Reduced Network Overhead: Unlike WebDAV, which repeatedly chats over HTTP layers for basic directory listings, the new architecture handles metadata caching intelligently, keeping your local workspace highly responsive.
A Seamless Windows Experience: The cloud repository mounts cleanly as a native local drive, giving Revit and AutoCAD direct, unhindered access to files as if they were sitting on a local high-speed server.
